Epidemiology
- Most common in females 20–50 years old.
Etiology

Clinical features
- Widespread musculoskeletal pain
- Morning stiffness (Typically lasts < 60 minutes)
- Fatigue
- Impaired attention & concentration
- Psychiatric disturbances (eg, depression, anxiety)
- Symptoms lasting for ≥ 3 months
- Physical examination
- Multiple tender points at characteristic locations
- Absence of joint or muscle inflammation
Diagnostics
Normal acute phase reactants (eg, ESR, CRP) & other inflammatory markers
Treatment
- Progressive exercise regimen
- Medications: tricyclic antidepressants, cyclic skeletal muscle relaxants, serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors
